History of Mechanical Services Contractor
Mikkelsen-Coward

At Mikkelsen-Coward we pride ourselves on the strong and constant reputation that precedes us – a reputation that is ours thanks to a very successful history in the Manitoba construction industry.

Our story spans more than 60 years with numerous landmark events along the way.

In 1947, Mikkelsen-Coward opened the doors to a small office on Logan Avenue. The company offered major mechanical plumbing services, and even then, the family business was successful.

Brothers Mitch and Mike Zajac foresaw the benefits of being a one-stop shop for both electrical and mechanical services and Nor-tec Electric acquired Mikkelsen-Coward in 1996, which added 40 people to the company’s workforce.

Mikkelsen-Coward and Nor-tec continued to grow and look for more ways to add value for clients to both companies. In 2000, Mikkelsen-Coward became the exclusive Linc Service Contractor in Manitoba, which is a trusted HVAC maintenance franchise with over 140 franchise locations in North America.

In 2001, V.K. Mechanical, a mid-sized boiler services company with 12 employees, was purchased and in 2003, Mikkelsen-Coward became the exclusive Manitoba dealer for Delta Controls through the merger with Control Systems Engineering. The Delta Controls system is a fully integrated native BACnet building automated control solution.

Today, the Zajac`s are the owners and executive management for Mikkelsen-Coward and Nor-tec Electric, the premier mechanical and electrical contractors in the province. Mikkelsen-Coward and Nor-tec Electric are 180 employees strong, and the businesses occupy a 16,000-square-foot head office on Notre Dame Avenue in Winnipeg as well as a nearby 14,000-square-foot storage facility.
